This summer I am interning for the Mississippi Teacher Corps in Oxford, Mississippi. MTC is an alternate route teaching certification program that recruits college graduates from all over the United States to teach in the Mississippi Delta for two years. I’m serving as assistant to Dr. Ann Monroe, the lead instructor for the initial summer training. Along with all of the teachers in training who are currently staying on campus at The University of Mississippi, I catch a bus at 6:30 every morning that takes us to the MTC Summer School in Holly Springs, MS. After school ends, Dr. Monroe holds her afternoon class and role-plays take place that are designed to prepare first-year teachers for any situation. I've been inspired on a daily basis by the passion that MTC participants have for progress in Mississippi.
